All Saints Day

Today, I am especially remembering the great cloud of witnesses who surrounds us and gathers with us at Holy Communion. I think of Louise's father, who died just a few days ago. I think of Bob, who was so kind to us while we lived in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. I think of the three students who have died this fall at Luther College--and the whole community there who mourns them so deeply. I think of the students, staff and faculty of LSTC who have lost family this past year - John, MaryAnn, Charles - and then I think further back to my own grandparents and loved ones - Emilie, Joseph, Janet, George, Tavia, Sam. All these are somehow present with us on this day when we celebrate the baptized, living and dead. And as we proclaim: I believe in the Holy Spirit... the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, the life everlasting.

Amen, amen.
